The Consumerization of Enterprise Technology

The Consumerization of Enterprise Technology

How the shift in focus to the individual user affects our industry and, subsequently, our platform

We think of “consumerization” as referring to the emergence of the individual user as the primary driver of product and design, especially in services and technology that have origins in large enterprise or government applications. In the contract workforce industry, there is a strong emphasis on solutions tailored for Fortune 500 companies, often with enterprise vendor management systems (VMS) built under the assumption that managed service providers (MSP) would handle the administration instead of actual internal users

However, not everyone uses an MSP, and those that don’t are left in a challenging position. They often face steep learning curves, extensive training requirements, and even advanced certification programs, depending on the solution in question. This is a widely known industry pain point that we set out to address when we built the HireArt platform.

HireArt

When we designed our platform, we intentionally broke away from industry norms through a focus on the hiring manager experience. The HireArt platform is designed to be simple and easy to use, with an interface that speaks to the needs of the end user’s day-to-day tasks, including:

  • Sourcing the best talent
  • Recruiting promising candidates
  • Onboarding new hires
  • Managing the workforce

This departure from traditional enterprise technology avoids obscure functionality, lengthy rollouts, and complex interfaces, particularly for companies that prefer to forego the MSP and manage their own contract workforces.

Key Drivers

The shift to consumer-focused solutions in the past decade may have been driven strongly in part by the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in a lot of hasty transitions to remote work environments. The industry saw wide-scale adoption of “bring your own device (BYOD)” solutions - companies like Dropbox and Evernote are good examples of consumer applications that offer attractive interfaces, affordable (sometimes free) pricing, ease of use, and intuitive functionality, the qualities of which have heavily influenced the way work is done and the way modern enterprise solutions are designed.

To us, consumer-led style and design aren’t just about making a product that is more attractive and fun to use. We acknowledge there are broader outcomes that positively affect companies’ bottom lines.

Implementation is faster - The HireArt platform comes embedded with all the necessary tools to get started right away. Manage every aspect of your contract workforce program from a single place without having to interface with several external point solutions.

Ramp-up time is lower - A user experience built specifically with the hiring manager in mind - no extensive training required. Hiring managers can dive into the platform immediately and have their first job requisition posted inside of one week.

Program adoption is stronger - A contract workforce program that hiring managers love generates internal advocacy and program commitment. When contract workforce programs generate frustration, users may be inclined to look for ways to work outside the constraints of the program, resulting in unaccountable “rogue spend”. A positive user experience helps prevent this from happening.

HireArt’s more modern, user-centric approach to product and design are what set it apart from legacy enterprise solutions. Through intuitive design and powerful embedded tools, HireArt is a great option for companies that wish to manage their own contract workforce programs.
