This position is critical to HireArt’s success. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll lead HireArt’s Finance Team.
Oversee international, multi-state weekly payroll - we employ a lot of people and the workforce is constantly changing. You own the payroll outcomes for our clients and employees.
Risk Management - Managing and mitigating risk is critical. We employ 1,000’s across states and countries. While you’ll manage our insurance portfolio, you need to be thinking, underwriting, and implementing processes ahead of “incidents.”
Reporting - Prepare and present monthly financial results to senior leadership. Analyze monthly financial results and provide recommendations to do better.
Pricing and Margin Management - every margin point matters - you’ll own and partner with operations, product development, and sales to increase transparency, accountability, and active management of pricing and gross margins by customers, region, role type, and product.
Cash management and borrowing - a lot of cash runs through our business - you need to forecast weekly and optimize our uses and sources of cash.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and KPI’s - We need to know where we stand financially and operationally at all times - you'll prepare, manage, and provide variance reporting against our annual operating budget and KPI’s and continuously update financial forecasts as the business changes. You’ll cultivate finance and other functions to ensure cost effective achievement of goals and objectives. Identify, track and report on key financial and non-financial performance metrics; work with the team to analyze trends and develop and implement changes to drive improvements.
Financing - with rapid growth we’ll raise outside capital - you’ll work closely with the CEO to close financing transactions.
Professional Services Management - We have complex issues in multiple jurisdictions - you’ll oversee and optimize the use of outside professionals.
Strategy - as a rapid growth company, finance is a critical component of our strategy, you’ll weigh in on how strategic choices will affect HireArt and make cases for strategy based on your financial insights at HireArt and the contingent labor market as a whole.
Finding people and building a great team - you’ll be a leader in the recruitment, training and development of top-quality people.
Manage our cap chart and equity program - keep our stakeholders informed and make sure our employees know the value of their equity.
Office/Real Estate - we have a small footprint - make it a place people want to visit and work in (1-3+ days a week).
Negotiate vendor contracts - you’ll make sure we get the best procurement outcomes.
Financial systems - we’re growing and financial systems need to move with us. You’ll build and strengthen our finance and accounting systems and processes.
7+ years of relevant and progressive work experience
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
Expert excel skills
Ability to work independently and a strong sense of ownership
Ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize and juggle multiple projects
Experience in management consulting, change management, or project management
MBA, CPA or advanced degree
Experience in operations in a finance organization at a high growth company
Project management and change management certifications (i.e., PMP, PfMP, CCMP)
Lean six-sigma or similar certifications
Experience with BI tools
Commitment: This is a full-time, permanent position at HireArt, which is a New York City based company. We are open to candidates who work partially remote, although we expect candidates to work weekly on-site at our office, once reopened.

Historically, sourcing and employing W-2 contractors has been a nightmare. Whereas companies like Upwork make hiring freelancers for gig projects a breeze, when companies need W-2 contractors, they have traditionally turned to thousands of fragmented, sub-scale staffing agencies. Agencies rely on an army of recruiters to manually recruit candidates, resulting in long fill times, low fill rates and eye-popping markups (markups frequently reach 60-100% of each hour billed!). A company hiring 200 contractors through a dozen staffing agencies, each with its own point solutions for payroll, time & attendance, benefits administration, PTO, expense reimbursement and so on, for example, might be burdened by (say) 100 point solutions, each with a separate login – if, that is, the agency offers any software at all.
HireArt is a modern platform designed to address the needs, multiple parties, and idiosyncratic workflows of contract staffing. To source contractors, hiring managers can create job requisitions, search our directory of qualified and available contractors, review applicants we have assessed and shortlisted, schedule interviews, extend offers, conduct background checks and digitally onboard new hires. To employ contractors, HireArt stands in as the employer of record. Hiring managers can use our platform to conduct payroll, manage time and attendance, administer benefits, respond to PTO requests, review expense submissions; and maintain compliance. Our business is profitable and rapidly growing but we are still in our first inning. While we've already helped build teams at hundreds of admired companies including Facebook, Toyota, Google, and Airbnb, we are now turning our focus to scaling. The TAM for contract staffing, we estimate, is approximately $200 billion in the US alone.
